Horseback Riding

We visited the Chain o' Lakes state park at they had horseback riding rentals there. The kids had their first experience of riding a horse (pony). Dakota kept on asking to get down, although he was I think liking it. And Pepper, being the animal lover she is, didn't want to get off the horse.

Pepper

Pepper is just an adorable little girl who loves to love. She has lots of hair and loves to run around and be silly with her brother.

So I FINALLY finished Pepper's blanket that was suppose to be for her first birthday. (She is now over 15 months old). Things never get done on time in this crazy household. She just instantly loved to hold, snuggle and carry this blanket around the house with her. She wants to take it out of her crib when she wakes up and have it with her always. I am glad she loves it so much.

Dakota and Pepper with their blankets.

She is also developed her climbing skills...

And she makes the funniest faces!

Dakota

This kid just is too funny sometimes! He was trying on my clothes and I had to snap this.

This kid just loves anything with wheel that go. Cars, Tractors, Semi-trucks, Motorcycles, etc. He really loved this huge tractor at Wagner Farms and he ran over to go touch it. He looks so small!

Oh look, another tractor at Wagner farms.

This tractor was at the Apple Hollar in WI. Fun time apple picking (which we actually didn't take any pictures of!)

Wednesday 8/17

On Wednesday we went to the theater. Thanks to our friends Jessica and John, who babysat, we spent the afternoon watching peter pan on a 360 degree stage. It was very fun, and the play was very inventive and incorporated a surrounding video screen on the roof.

Mom and Dad enjoyed the play too!
Oh yeah. The play was in a big tent. Pretty nice, with a boardwalk foyer and air conditioning. The AC could have been a bit cooler though. After the play we picked up Dakota and Pepper and eat dinner at Bakers Square. We'd never been there before, but it reminded Tharon of his days working at Frontier Pies. The food was great (the works burger was very yummy) and because it was Wednesday we got free pie!

Later that evening G & G put the kids to bed so that Alicia & Tharon could go watch the last Harry Potter. Thanks G & G. To our dismay, however, the room playing the movie was having "technical difficulties" and the audio was all messed up. So we ended up watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The night out was great. The movie . . . okay.

Thursday 8/18

Thursday - Museum and UIC orthodontics department, Alicia cooked salmon for dinner, and we played cornhole in the backyard 'til bedtime. Museum fun. The kids loved the hands on exhibits and the idea center.
Grandpa stuck around long enough to make it into this photo and then was off . . . like a kid in a candy store. He was harder to keep track of than Dakota and Pepper.

The pioneer Zephyr, stainless steel diesel train at the chi town museum of science and industry. The museum was huge, had amazing exhibits, and we will definitely go back for more!

Showing off the orthodontic clinic. This was my first year chair. G & G reading to Dakota. We already miss them!

G & G reading to Pepper on the last night of their visit.

Easter

Dakota showing off his cool Toy Story hat. He loves it so much and wears it as much as he can. It is so funny to watch him put it on. Dakota always tilts it off to the side. Silly boy!
Pepper looking a little confused about what she is suppose to do with the things that were in her easter basket. She is so precious.

Dakota went straight to trying to open up the candy. He ate way too much candy on Easter, so I hid it the next day. He only asked for it once, and I told him he ate it all. Which he did!

Pepper was napping while we colored the easter eggs. This was Dakota's first time, he really enjoyed it and ended up with blue fingers.

Dakota's second Easter egg hunt. Pepper was too small to participate. Glad we didn't try either. It was crazy! All those easter eggs were gone in less than 30 seconds!

Keeping Busy

We are just having a fun time with all that Chicago has to offer. Here is Dakota checking out te giraffes at the zoo. This is the outing that gave me hope of going out somewhere with just the kids and keeping my sanity at the same time. :)

Our 2010 family caricature drawing.

The Chicago Auto Show. Tharon's favorite car!

Dakota and Bob the Builder at the Lego Factory. Dakota loved this place.

Children's Museum & The Blizzard of 2011

Playing at the Chicago Children's Museum. We go to museum a lot because the library has passes that you can check out for a week, to get into the museum for free. Nothing better than free entertainment.

Dakota exploring the river and all the creatures in it.
Alicia shoveling the snow. And there was A LOT of it! That was my workout for the day!
Wishing I was somewhere warm right now!
Couldn't get out of our garage/alley for at least 3 days. It took them that long to come plow it. But there was still SO MUCH to shovel ourselves!

Navy Pier and The History Museum

We stopped by the Navy Pier to get a caracture drawn of the family. It is a family tradition (for the last three years anyways). Afterwards we stopped for some ice cream. Dakota looks like he is already on a sugar high. And Pepper didn't want to stop eating the ice cream. She loved it!
Dakota pretending to be a Chicago Dog at the History Museum.
Go Tharon Go!
One of Dakota's passions. He didn't want to leave, we had to drag him out of the train.

Christmas 2010

This kid loves Chocolate. He saw the wrapper and knew immediately what it was and wanted it opened NOW! He ate it all, one happy child. Pepper opening up a gift and just loving it.
Snowmobiling. Dakota's first time and sadly he didn't enjoy. He kept on asking to "get down and go home"
Sledding. Another activity he was freightened by. Maybe next year!
Pepper just loved Grandma (once she finally warmed up to her)
The big Christmas tree in Downtown Chicago at the Kris Kindle Market. Freezing but fun!
We did get to meet up with the Permann's in Pocatello. Sadly this is the only good shot I took of anyone. Dakota and William playing at the Mall play place.
Christmas PJ's made by Grandma Smith.
The Christmas Nativity play. Tharon was the Angel.
Dakota's favorite gift. He wanted them on immediately after he opened the package and didn't want to take them off. I think he wore them for two days straight!
